THAILAND/ June 5, 2009 – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau or TCEB today, implement new sustainability initiative programs by introducing “Go Green Exhibition” campaign, sets environmental friendly guidelines for Thailand exhibition industry. TCEB aims both private and public entrepreneurs to join this newly launched project, in order to integrate the efforts in developing and creating competitive advantage of Thai exhibition industry, which 25 organizations have already participated.

Mrs. Supawan Teerarat, Director of Exhibition Department and Acting President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) reveals that “Presently, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) particularly ‘Green’ concept is one of the key marketing strategies to proceed environmental friendly business operations particularly MICE operators to consider the significance of environmental friendly practice as one of the major factors in the new era operations and business practices. TCEB initiates “Go Green Exhibition” to encourage exhibition organizers or entrepreneurs to apply clean technology to their business and utilize all resources and energy most effectively.”

Michael Duck, Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee, UFI, added that “Go Green Exhibition” project would create great awareness of environmental reserve management among the players in the exhibition industry that is truly significant for the industry. There are members from UFI already committing to operate in green ways. I am delighted that TCEB has initiated this project in Thailand, and as the chairman of the committee, I am pleased to assist with full support regarding the exhibition industry to go green”.

“At the first creation of “Go Green Exhibition project, TCEB arouses green marketing concept in order to create positive images to the exhibition industry.
In addition, this green concept would create opportunity for exhibition organizers to be aware and apply the green guideline concept to operate their business practice effectively. Today, good signs arise from both public and private sectors. There are totally of 15 organizations had already joined this green exhibition project, in terms of adapting this practical project to their business practices” said Mrs. Supawan.

She furthered, “TCEB will exercise ‘Go Green Exhibition’ as a new promotion point and strategy to promote Thailand as the global exhibition host country against other key rivals in this region. To reinforce the green concept, and procedure, Cleaner Technology concept (CT) has to be applied together with organizational management including marketing and human resource management. Therefore, Cleaner Technology is one of the Best Practices for the Green MICE industry development, the way of conserving resources leading to minimize the negative impact on the environment and operation cost. Also it serves as a key fundamental of international standard development, ISO14000, which brings sustainability to the Thai MICE and related industries.”

Mr. Patrapee Chinachoti, President of Thai Exhibition Association said “Private sector will benefit a great deal from TCEB ‘Go Green Exhibition’ campaign since it will encourage those in the industry to take environmental accountability into their business practices. The operation cost will be decreased while the world will become cleaner and greener. It is such a great idea of integrating private and government efforts together in developing exhibition industry in a sustainable way”.

Mrs. Nichapa Yosawee, Managing Director, Reed Tradex Co., Ltd. said on the success of turning ‘green’ with exhibition business, “It will create good corporate image and build credibility for Thai exhibition industry in international arena, as well as saving operation cost. Currently, more exhibitors and visitors tend to pay a great extent of attention to the environmental issue; therefore, this is going to be another chapter of environmental exhibition industry development”.

“TCEB strongly believes that this environmental-care campaign will be a distinctive selling point for future Thai exhibition industry to win more international events to Thailand. Above and beyond, Thailand has the strong advantages recognized worldwide with its value for money and Thai impressive ways of servicing; we expect we could draw more exhibitors and visitors to come to Thailand and meets our ultimate goal to reinforce Thailand as an ASEAN’s preferred exhibition hub.”
