Destination Management Company in the Seychelles, Mason’s Travel, was able to beat off stiff competition in the 2011 Seychelles carnival to take first prize as best local float.

The Indian Ocean islands were organizing their first international carnival, which together pulled some 65 international and local floats. The event was covered by press from all over the world including 8 TV stations. Mason’s Travel fielded a strong team who did justice to its theme “Carnival Fun” as they exuded excitement and joy in their blue and purple carnival outfits. The two shades represented the company’s flagship colors and were a lovely combination with silvery streak,s which had the Mason’s Travel staff dazzling on the streets in Victoria.

To top off the bright outfit and head feathers, Mason’s Travel also scored high marks for their choreography and animation, which must have been the result of good practice leading up to the carnival weekend. Mason’s Travel took first place with a cash prize of R15,000, ahead of second-placed JJ Spirit Foundation and third-placed Indian Ocean Tuna Limited.

JJ Spirit was also very creative with their float which had a “Beauty under the sea” theme. Bikini-clad young girls and boys waved at the public from atop the granite boulders by the sea, whereas another group adorned in carnival attires danced and followed the float by foot. They won R10,000 as second prize, whereas the Indian Ocean Tuna Company of Seychelles (IOT), with its “Tuna Industry” float, took R5,000 as third prize. IOT’s float depicted a scene from their cannery factory where tins of tuna were being processed, canned, and labeled.
