(eTN) – At least 13 people are dead and over 50 missing in Seti River Flood resulted by an avalanche in Annapurna mountain range in Kaski, western Nepal Saturday morning. District Police spokesman fears that the death toll is expected to rise, given the extent of the floods. Among the missing are three Russian tourists.

The flood, that came without any warning, destroyed human settlements in the river banks along with bridges and crops in a vast area.

The flood swept away five trucks, one tractor, one bus, bridges, dozen houses, trees and encroached agricultural fields.

Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and the Nepal Police personnel along with Red Cross officials are involved in rescue works at different places. Two army helicopters have been sent from Kathmandu to rescue the victims.

The district headquarter Pokhara, the Gateway to Annapurna Trekking, is not affected by the flood however local residents seem to be in high alert.
