TEHRAN, Iran – The 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit will provide a good opportunity for Iran to introduce its tourism potential and cultural heritage to NAM members during their stay in Tehran, an official of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) said on Friday.

NAM visitors will have an opportunity to become familiar with Iranian monuments and cultural elements, which have been registered on UNESCO’s lists over the past years, Director of CHTHO’s International Affairs Department Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Javad Adabi told the Persian service of IRNA.

He said that Iran’s plan to lift visa rules with 60 countries will be discussed during the NAM summit in Tehran.

He described Iran as a country that is home to unique Iranian and Islamic handicrafts and said that Tehran’s Milad Tower has set up several pavilions to offer a selection of Persian handicrafts to visitors from NAM.

An exhibition of rare copies of Persian handicrafts will also open at the tower to help introduce Iranian handicrafts to foreign visitors via catalogues that are available in four different languages, he said.

In addition, CHTHO has plans to introduce the tourist attractions of the country in the different halls hosting NAM visitors on the side section.

He also said that CHTHO director is determined to visit NAM tourism officials or ministers, if they are attending the summit.

Adabi expressed hopes of boosting the tourism industry of the country, promoting Iran’s tourism potential and signing bilateral agreements with participating countries.

Tehran will be hosting the 16th NAM summit from August 26 to September 1.
