An idyllic Caribbean paradise, Tobago is known for its laid-back lifestyle, breathtaking beaches, the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere, and coconut infused cuisine, but the island is also fast gaining a reputation as one of the region’s top sporting hotspots.

The capital of goat and crab racing, the laidback sister in the dual nation of Trinidad and Tobago, the island is also host to high-profile and world-class sporting events, including fishing tournaments, sailing regattas, and cycling.
In December, exciting rugby action will take center stage as Tobago hosts the 2012 Carib Tobago International Rugby 7s Tournament on December 8 and 9. Teams from around the region will join their international counterparts for 2 days of intense competition with several renowned referees from North America and Europe on hand to ensure that the best teams wins.

For teams interested in participating, registration details, tour packages, information on getting to Tobago, and accommodation options are available at the tournament website www.tobago7s.com . Participating teams that choose tour packages will be greeted on arrival with a case of cold Carib beer and transferred to their selected accommodation. A free shuttle service will also be provided for all participants and their supporters on the days of the tournament.

A US$10,000 cash prize is up for grabs in the Men’s Divisions in addition to trophies and other special prizes for the winners of the Women’s Divisions.

The tournament will come to a close with an all-day beach party on December 10 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the spectacular Store Bay, one of Tobago’s most popular beaches. The food, Carib beer, and music are all free to participating teams and their supporters.
