Statistics from the Hotel Price Radar show a general increase in average room prices in the UK in the first few months of 2013.

This increasing trend has not been seen entirely throughout Europe however, with hotel rates in Athens, Milan and Warsaw all showing double digit reductions in price comparison changes over the last year.

The average rate of a hotel room in Warsaw is down 16% compared to last year, costing travellers less than £56 on average per night. This dramatic reduction is similar to Athens – the Greek capital is still suffering from its economic crisis and subsequent decline in business travellers and city tourists, which have consequently led to lower hotel room rates. A visitor to Athens only had to spend £58.78 on average for a hotel room in the first quarter of 2013, representing a decrease of more than 11% compared to last year.

Birmingham defies the general UK trend of increasing hotel rates, with an 11% reduction in average room prices for the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same time last year. In comparison, an average room price per night in London costs £105, a slight decrease on last year when pre-Olympic fever gripped the UK capital.

Leeds and Manchester have seen the largest increases in room prices, with rooms costing an average of £73 and £79 respectively. This reflects the increasing popularity of UK regional hubs for UK business travellers.

The most expensive hotel stay in Europe is still Moscow, where a room costs an average of just under £123 per night. Zurich, which has always been an expensive hotel city, also cost just under £117 per night. In both cities, average hotel prices remained virtually unchanged from the last two years.
