The US midwest is expecting a big winter storm bringing rain, snow, and wind today and tomorrow (December 10 and 11, 2010). It is expected this severe winter weather will affect travel throughout the region. States exepected to be affected are Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The following announcements have been received from the airline community.

Delta Air Lines today extended the ability for customers whose flight plans may be affected by severe winter weather across the US Midwest to make one-time changes to their travel schedules without fees through Sunday, December 12. The expanded weather advisory encourages customers traveling through seven states to consider postponing or re-routing their travel without penalty to avoid possible inconvenience.

Customers booked on Delta-ticketed flights to, from, or through the following states may make a one-time change to their travel schedule without fees if tickets are changed by December 12, 2010.

• Wisconsin

Travel for changed itineraries must begin by December 14, 2010, and changes to origin and destination may result in a fare increase. Any fare difference between the original ticket and the new ticket will be collected at the time of rebooking. Customers whose flights are cancelled may request refunds. Ticket changes may be made at www.delta.com.

Delta will proactively reduce flight schedules to and from affected airports to minimize delays during the storm, including at its hubs in Cincinnati, Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Delta will continue to monitor the weather situation and provide the latest weather updates at www.delta.com.

Customers traveling in impacted markets should check their flight status at www.delta.com before arriving at the airport.

UNITED/CONTINENTAL

United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced travel options for United Airlines and Continental Airlines customers whose flight plans may be affected by severe winter weather forecast for the Midwest this weekend. Weather conditions are expected to make air travel difficult, with the likelihood of delays and cancellations of flights at United’s hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Continental’s hub at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Operations at other airports throughout the Midwest will also be affected by severe weather.

Customers scheduled on flights to, from or through the region, including Chicago and Cleveland, through Dec. 13 may reschedule their itinerary with a one-time date or time change, and the change fees will be waived. If a flight has been canceled, a refund in the original form of payment may be requested. The fastest and most convenient way to change travel plans is via the websites, and customers should continue to manage their reservations on the respective company’s website from which their ticket was purchased.
