The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual Conference opens today (April 21 local time) in Kuala Lumpur. The conference will address the theme “Building the Business Beyond Profits” and will feature some of Asia’s most acclaimed and conscientious entrepreneurs. The speakers, all “Next Gen” thought leaders, will share their successful social entrepreneurship business models and principles. Attending the event as a member of the PATA Industry Council is eTN Publisher Juergen T. Steinmetz.

PATA CEO, Martin J. Craigs, will commit the association to a four-year phase of “Next Generation” action to underpin the 61-year old travel body’s relevance in the digital age.

The CEO, speaking on April 20 at the PATA Board meeting, said that aligned advocacy, mobile technology, business-building events, and crisis management readiness would define the association’s new operational mindset, which will be formally called PATA Next Gen. Over 600 tourism professionals from various travel industry sectors and locations are gathering for the two-day PATA Annual Conference from April 21-22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Craigs said: “PATA Next Gen is ageless, neither old nor young. It is a state of mind, a commitment to speed, relevance, informality, and getting things done on behalf of our members who want to build and defend their business in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”
