INDIA (eTN) – Lucknow, the city of Nawabs – royalty of yesteryears – capital of Uttar Pradesh in north India, has been adding to its hotel inventory in a bid to cater to and expand its leisure and business tourism base.

This is coinciding with improved infrastructure and renewed focus on culture and heritage. The Chief Minister, Akilesh Yadav, perhaps the youngest to head a state government, has put tourism in focus, and is building a road connection to Agra from Lucknow.

In the not-so-distant past, Lucknow had a rather limited choice of options to stay, but now several new hotels are coming up or have already opened.

The Heritage Arch of Agra, Lucknow, and Varanasi are also being put in place, and existing hotels like Clarks and Sarovar have been given a new look, as the Bangkok chain, Lebua, has come up with a plush new property in Lucknow, with 41 rooms of deluxe, executive, and luxury spread in traditional sprawling bungalow style, as well as extensive dining facilities with royal courts cuisine on offer.

The old art gallery connecting the two imambaras in the complex in Lucknow has also been given a new look.
